One of my intentions in 2020 is to spend more time reading books and less time scrolling social media. I’m more relaxed, I’m sleeping better, and I’m a hell of a lot more interesting to have conversations with these days. The people at the library are starting to greet me by name, so that’s fun. Plus, the more my kids catch me reading, the more they want to read for themselves! Mom win.
Here’s what I’ve been up to so far, with links in case anything appeals to you. Oh, and I should mention that this is a mix of books I own, books I’ve borrowed from the local library or interlibrary loan, and ebooks on my Kindle Paperwhite.
Read So Far, as of February 14
- On Mystic Lake by Kristin Hannah
- The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict
- Digging In by Loretta Nyhan — Fun and extremely readable. I devoured it.
- My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh
- Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow — This was phenomenal and I could. not. put. it. down. Highly recommend! It’s young adult fiction and one of the best books I’ve read in recent memory.
- 1996 by Kirsty McManus
I just started That Kind of Mother by Rumaan Alam, but I haven’t even finished the first chapter yet so nothing to report.
As I mentioned, my kiddos have been reading too:
- Dog Man series by Dave Pilkey (author of Captain Underpants)
- Secret Zoo series by Bryan Chick
- Inside Out and Back Again (poetry book) by Thanhha Lai
Not sure where to start? Find your local library.
What are you reading right now? What are your kids reading?
