Showering with a Zofran Pump

I got my Zofran pump a few days ago and realized today it’s time for a shower since I haven’t had one since I was in the hospital. Yikes. I definitely smell bad. (Sorry, Daddy in Training!) But before I could hop in and get clean, I had to deal with a whole new logistical nightmare beyond just needing supervision so I don’t pass out and fall through the glass shower doors: How to keep the pump dry.

It seemed simple enough at first: Just slip the pump into the handy-dandy plastic pouch the nurses gave me on Sunday, and done! But easier said than done. The pump decidedly did NOT fit in the pouch while inside the padded bag, so that had to go. But then I couldn’t even get it in without the padded bag on it, so Daddy in Training had to do it for me.

And then where to put it? The strap is long enough that you’re supposed to be able to wear it while showering, but the only thing more awkward than showering with supervision with a tube coming out of your stomach is doing it while wearing a hideous plastic purse.

This will take some getting used to…

I think I might just stick with baths for a while. I feel overwhelmed thinking about this! But deb’s handheld technique sounds like it might work for me. I’ll feel it out and report back. Today I just took a “bird bath” in the sink and that was fine. I’m not exactly jogging these days, so all I need to deal with to feel comfortable are my face and what I call the “bits and pits.” I can do my hair upside down in the tub no problem so will probably do that until I get the hang of things.
