HG Tip for Those Pesky Zofran Pump Lumps

I’ve had my Zofran pump for almost 2 weeks and am finding that the lumps that develop under my skin where the meds infuse are really uncomfortable: sore and itchy. But! There’s hope!

I started out with my stomach as the infusion site and quickly ran out of real estate bc of the lumps even when I changed the site every day. Then I moved to my outer thigh, which I thought I would hate but actually love. The lumps are smaller there, and I’ve learned how to make them go away!

Get Hot Hands from your nearest sporting goods store or department. We got a bonus pack with like 25 for a couple of bucks at Bass Pro Shops. Then after you activate it, place it on the old infusion site and wrap an ace bandage or any other strip of cloth around it tightly enough that it won’t slide down when you walk. Leave it there either all day if you change in the morning or overnight if you change in the evening. Mine are consistently staying warm 12-14 hours.

Don’t do it overnight until you feel how hot it is and can monitor it. The instructions say not to use while sleeping but I tried it out awake for a day and it was fine. Some folks may be more sensitive though.
It is a little awkward at first, but it makes the pain and itching go away! And it’s way less awkward than a warm washcloth that you have to change every couple of minutes when it cools off. This has been a real lifesaver! Now I never have trouble finding a new infusion site, and I am much more comfortable. Phew. Hope it lasts!
