Peeing and Panicking

I know there are, like, legitimate physiological reasons that pregnant women urinate frequently — like a growing baby pressing against your bladder — but I have another theory. I think peeing hourly in early pregnancy and then again in the third trimester serves a very important preparatory purpose.

Think of it as practice for constant diaper changes, including in the middle of the night. Every night. Multiple times.

I’m only about 6.5 weeks along, and I’m peeing like it’s my job. I’m sure it has something to do with the fact that I’m drinking a lot more for fear of becoming dehydrated. And also because I’m hungry all the time and it’s WAY too early to be eating for two, but that’s another story.

This is totally normal, right? Because it feels abnormal.

Every time I go into the bathroom, my breath catches as I sit down and again as I check the toilet paper for the telltale tinge of blood that signaled the end of my last pregnancy. The second trimester can’t come soon enough, for so many reasons.
