Like her sister Zoe, who’s obsessed with people in the shower, Pickles the pug likes to supervise baths by circling in front of the tub and standing up against the edge to peek in and make sure her people are still there while her bullmastiff brother Ty watches from afar, feigning complete disinterest.
I was mid-soak at the end of last week when SPLASH! There was water everywhere, and one very, very concerned little pug was treading water in the middle of our master bathroom’s deep soaking tub.
Once I got over the shock (and then the delight, since it was Pickles’ first time swimming), I figured I might as well give her a bath since she was already soaked, so she got a volumizing shampoo and a nice warm rinse before I dried her off (with my towel, I might add, since it was the only one in reach) and put her back out on the floor.
Resuming my relaxation proved harder than I thought, as I fended off Pickles’ repeated attempts to leap back into the tub. After about 10 minutes, she finally gave up and resigned herself to curling up, damp, in the middle of my pillow — but not before thoroughly scratching my throat and chest while trying to fight her way back into the bath.
Now, she’s following Zoe’s lead and trying to paw open the glass shower doors. Who knew she’d so enjoy the salon treatment? I guess it’s more fun for her than the usual oatmeal-based puppy shampoo we use. Good to know, but apparently now we’ve created a self-grooming pug. I wonder if we could breed a whole family of them…
