Name: Zoe King
Birth date: On or around February 15, 2003
Breed: Lynx Point Siamese
Distinctive feature: My beautiful blue eyes
Favorite color: Blue, because it makes my eyes look even more gorgeous
Favorite treat: I don’t like treats. They make me throw up every time, so now I just ignore Mom and Dad when they try to give me stuff.
Favorite toy: The plastic wand with feathers and streamers on the end
Favorite pastime: Drinking out of Mom’s water glass while she’s sleeping and waking her up
Least favorite thing: Ty. He always chases me.
Oh, she’s pretty, what with those blue eyes and all, but don’t be fooled: Zoe hates you. Actually, she probably likes you just fine. She just hates us. It’s weird, she was the most affectionate little thing when she was a baby.
We adopted Zoe as an 8-week-old kitten when someone dumped her in front of Jesse’s mom’s house. She had a standard poodle puppy at the time and was afraid his overzealous play would squash the little puffball, so we were the next logical solution. Since we’d been talking about adopting a pet anyway, the timing was great! And back then, Zoe really did love us. She slept on my pillow and followed me around the apartment. She sat in the window at the end of the day and watched for Jesse to come home. She meowed if we closed her out of the room. She just wanted to be with us all the time.
Now she doesn’t like to be petted or held at all. We’ve taken her to the vet (whom she likes) to rule out any underlying illness, and she’s got a clean bill of health. So apparently it’s not her, it’s us. Do you have any idea how it feels to be told, “Your cat’s just not that into you”?
But I guess the good news when your cat hates you is that she doesn’t stalk you as cats are wont to do. She seldom drapes herself across the keyboard while I’m typing, and I don’t think she’s ever lain down on the newspaper while I was reading it. Overall, she’s a pretty pleasant living companion as long as you don’t try to touch her. (Although I have to say that she is a bit pervvy–she likes to watch people in the shower.)
Zoe gets along with the other pets in fits and starts, but overall I think she could do without siblings. She really tolerates them more than anything else. Until we come to our senses and make her an only cat again, she seems content with the alpha role in the household.
