Throwback Thursday: Sunday, March 19, 1995

From time to time, I like to revisit childhood journals for hilariously awkward and occasionally mortifying stories. Here’s what happened after what seems to have been the spring dance. (Evidently I had resolved to journal more frequently, but failed to do so.) I’ve typed it exactly as written, except for replacing full names with initials to somewhat protect the identities of other “characters.”

I guess I majorly broke my resolution. By about a month! Sorry.

I went to the dance on Friday. My friend MS came as my guest. I danced twice, with JM. The 1st time, I asked him to dance with me. Afterwards, CT sent EB over to tell me, “If you dance with JM again, CT will kick your ass!” Nice, huh? What a bitch! Towards the end, CH got CT’s “permission” for me to dance with JM again. And JM told me that he and CT weren’t even there together!

I would have asked MA to dance, too, but he was “sucking face” w/DD all night. I don’t  think the chaperones even noticed. At the end, somebody asked MA something and he yelled back, “Did it look like I was choching [nb: choking] her?” and I said under my breath, “No. I looked like you were eating her!” Luckily, he didn’t hear me. Time Management for Moms: Creating a Time Budget — Working Mom Wednesday

One of the things this new efficiency / structure / let’s-start-truly-being-grownups thing we’re doing these days has made me realize is that I just do not use time as efficiently as I used to. This goes for both personal life and work life.

So, I’m working on changing my habits, and guess what:

I made up a schedule and checklist for myself, too. (See this week’s earlier posts about a daily schedule for our toddlers and our daily household chores list.)

Here’s basically what my day looks like during the week: Continue reading

Daily Schedule for 22-Month-Old Twins — Twin Tips Tuesday

As part of the Family Overhaul I mentioned on our Facebook page the other day, we’re trying to implement more structure to make sure everyone stays happy and on track. That’s what made me realize I haven’t updated the boys’ daily schedule since January.

Which probably explains why we’ve been letting them watch WAY too much TV and we all end most days frustrated and tired.

Mommy fail.

So here’s the new schedule:

Daily Schedule for 22-month-old twins.

The boys are in daycare only about 2 days a week, but they seem to be absolutely thriving there so obviously they do something right at “school.” I snapped a picture of the classroom schedule and structured our day around providing a consistent routine for the kiddos whether they’re home or at daycare.

Mythbuster Monday: “My Kids Are Too Little to Do Chores”

We have a few hard and fast rules in our house:

  1. No hitting or hair-pulling.
  2. Be nice to the dogs.
  3. If it takes more than 5 minutes for an adult or 20 minutes for the kids to pick up the family room, the kids have too many toys.

My house looks like a disaster are most of the times the kids are awake. They generally outnumber their caregivers, there of two of them, and any time they play with the same toy, they fight over it. Hence, toys everywhere. No judgment here if your play area is a train wreck.

But before nap and at the end of each day, we ask the kids to clean up their stuff, and we help them until it gets done. They will be 22 months old tomorrow, and we’ve been doing this for about 10 months. Continue reading
