As the mom of three young children I often find myself searching desperately for recipes my kids will eat. It goes further than just finding kid-fun foods, there’s also Princess Daddy and myself. Our tastes are a bit more mature than our children’s’. (A bit…) There is a delicate balance between kid food and good food. We have our staples: pizza, tacos, burgers… We have some other favorites: breakfast for dinner, stir fry, sausage and sauerkraut. But let’s face it, that’s six meals. That’s not even enough to feed us for ONE week, let alone to get us past having to eat the same thing over and over again all month long.
There’s a large selection of food blogs and recipe websites available on the Internet. And sure if I were a 1950′s housewife and wanted to spend hours in the kitchen every day these would work but we are more of a 15 minute, serve-on-a-paper-plate kind of meal, family. So just where do you find new recipes for a busy, crazy family? Here’s my three favorite places to steal ideas:
1. Check your magazines. I get lord knows how many magazines delivered as “samples” each week. Plenty are not my taste and would be easy to just recycle but instead, I thumb through them. Almost every magazine has a food section. I tear out pages that look interesting. Look at the advertisements too. Seriously, quick easy recipes! Some of my favorites come from Campbell’s Kitchen who regularly advertises in magazines.
2. Befriend other moms on Facebook. Here’s the thing, my mom friends post about their dinner plans All. The. Time. There is no better place to get a recipe than one that’s been tried and tested already. This will include a lot of crock pot, casserole and freezer favorites. Hit up those moms for recipes!
3. Grocery stores. Several of our local grocery stores here have savings clubs. One includes a recipe with every weekly coupon ad mailed out. The recipes are designed to feed a family of four for under $5. Another features a meal deal each week with a coupon for 4-5 items like a pack of hot dogs, buns, bag of chips, box of mac n cheese and 2 liter bottle of soda all for $4-7. Sometimes if you buy a rotisserie chicken, there is a discount on side items giving you instant ideas for that night’s dinner.
Wherever you get your ideas from, make sure you change it up. The more often you eat the exact same thing, the more likely you are to default on fast food or take out. Sure, every once in awhile is okay but you want to keep your family healthy. Mommy-in-training and I have been bouncing ideas back and forth and are trying to get a big master list of main dish and side choices together. I can’t wait to share the final product.

Cheesy Chicken Bundles
These freeze amazingly well and do not need to be thawed prior to cooking. I bake frozen at 375 for about 30-40 minutes.
